What is Abrasive Blasting?

Abrasive blasting is the practice of using abrasive materials forcibly in order to:

  • Remove contaminants or previous coatings
  • Prepare a surface before coating
  • Roughen surfaces
  • Smooth surfaces

Depending on the blasting application, the type of material used for blasting will differ. The types of material are referred to as “media” and it is important to understand the finish you are looking for, as this will change the media used.
